Essential Functions:
The Research Fellow – Extremism & Threat Assessment investigates extremist movements—particularly those targeting Latino and immigrant communities—by conducting deep research using primary and verified public data sources, analyzing patterns and risks, and preparing concise internal reports that track trends and emerging threats. The Fellow flags urgent developments in real time, briefs key teams at LULAC and ADL, and serves as the bridge between both organizations. They also recommend proactive strategies to help leadership anticipate, respond to, and neutralize extremist activity. The position reports directly to the National Director of Research & Policy.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience required; master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and research abilities, with familiarity using open-source intelligence (OSINT) and data tools to gather and interpret information.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex findings into clear, concise insights.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and sound judgment, especially when working under pressure or on time-sensitive matters.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities at once and adapt quickly to shifting demands.
  • Effective collaborator who works well across teams and levels of staff; position operates in a hybrid work environment.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of articulating complex ideas and findings clearly and effectively across English and Spanish contexts.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct deep investigative research using open-source intelligence (OSINT), public records, and corporate data platforms.
  • Proven track record of analyzing complex information and distilling findings into clear, actionable insights for decision-makers.
  • Strong interest in extremist movements, threat trends, or related areas of inquiry.
  • Skilled at identifying patterns, risks, and emerging threats through meticulous review of digital footprints, organizational structures, and public activity.

Physical Demands: The role is primarily desk-based but may occasionally require lifting up to 15 pounds and standing for extended periods.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a part-time, non-exempt position with a set weekly schedule determined in coordination with one’s supervisor. As a part-time role, it is not eligible for any employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, or savings programs.

Salary and Benefits: This is a part-time position, paid at $25–$30 per hour for a 15–20 hour per week schedule, depending on experience. Please note that this role does not include employment benefits. There is no accrual of sick or vacation time, no paid federal holidays, and no eligibility for health, dental, vision, or life insurance, nor participation in a retirement plan.
