Boycotting any State or Territory of the United States of America that Enacts Anti-Immigration Legislation from Consideration for the LULAC National Convention

WHEREAS, the League of United Latin American Citizens is this nation’s oldest and largest Latino organization, founded in Corpus Christi, Texas on February 17, 1929; and

WHEREAS, LULAC throughout its history has committed itself to the principles that Latinos have equal access to opportunities in employment, education, housing and healthcare; and

WHEREAS, immigration is a federal responsibility; and

WHEREAS, protecting the human and civil rights of immigrants and citizens is paramount to all communities in the United States of America as we move forward in the 21st Century; and

WHEREAS, legislation from any state or territory of the United States of America aimed at enacting anti-immigration policies create financial, cultural, and political strains on communities across the United States of America and its territories, including Puerto Rico; and

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, The League of United Latin American Citizens during its 82nd National Conference and Expo celebrated in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 2nd of the current year of two thousand and eleven, boycotts from consideration for the National LULAC Convention any state or territory of the United States which enacts anti-immigration legislation
