Resolution on Early Health, Early Learning

WHEREAS, the League of United Latin American Citizens is committed to improving the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, housing, health and civil rights of the Hispanic population; and,

WHEREAS, more than a half-million Florida children are without health insurance; and,

WHEREAS, more than half of public school sophomores cannot read at grade level; and,

WHEREAS, one in five children live below the full federal definition of poverty; and,

WHEREAS, the League of United Latin American Citizens recognizes and values the importance of investing in the early learning years; and

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the League of United Latin American Citizens supports and joins with The Children's Movement of Florida and its 300,000 supporters for the urgent need to maintain children as being our state's highest priority; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the League of United Latin American Citizens endorses The Children's Movement five-point agenda focusing on health insurance for all children, screening and treatment for children who may have special needs, improving Florida's voluntary pre-K program, high quality mentoring programs, and high quality parent skill-building programs.
