Diana Castillo Perez
Former President of the Resident Council, LULAC
Women’s Hall of Fame Awardee
Diana Castillo Perez is a fearless and lifelong advocate for equity, housing justice, education, and disability rights. A proud member of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) since 1993, she has spent over three decades advancing social justice through grassroots leadership and public service. Born and raised in San Antonio’s historic Alazán-Apache Courts, Diana’s early experiences inspired her to serve as President of the Resident Council from 1990 to 1997, leading efforts to improve living conditions and empower residents. She also co-founded Our Casas Resident Council, a pioneering, resident-led housing advocacy group.
Her advocacy has taken her from local communities to national platforms. Diana was invited to the White House during the Clinton administration to speak on public housing and marched with Rev. Jesse Jackson against gang violence in San Antonio. She worked closely with influential leaders such as Congressman Henry B. Gonzalez and was mentored by civil rights icons including Dario Chapa, Rosa Rosales, and Lupe Torres. She has also been a passionate mental health advocate, participating in early efforts to expand access to community-based care in Bexar County.
In addition to her housing work, Diana has been a steadfast voice for children with disabilities, holding schools accountable and pushing for educational equity. As a longtime outreach volunteer for the San Antonio Housing Authority and participant in local and state political campaigns, she has helped ensure that vulnerable families receive the resources they need. Her work now includes digital advocacy, using social media to educate and mobilize around critical issues. Diana’s legacy is defined by compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to justice—making her a deserving nominee for the LULAC Hall of Fame.
