Andy Lara

President, Southwest Washington LULAC

Andy Lara

Andy Lara is a 27-year-old Freshwater Ecologist and serves as President of the Southwest Washington (SWWA) LULAC Council #47013 and Deputy State Director for Washington LULAC. His work focuses on advancing opportunities for young adults and high school students through education, professional development, and advocacy. His council also advocates for immigrant families by connecting them to vital resources and defending their rights across the Pacific Northwest.

Born and raised in Mesquite, Texas, Andy joined LULAC in 2017 as a young adult and went on to found and serve as the First President of the Pineywoods LULAC Council #22351 at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas—a LULAC National Multi Award-winning collegiate council. From 2017 to 2022, Andy was an active member of LULAC’s Young Adult division, later transitioning to Adult Council leadership in 2023.

After graduating in 2022, Andy traveled across the West Coast conducting scientific aquatic research before settling in Vancouver, Washington. As a Freshwater Ecologist, he works with federal and nonprofit partners to deliver scientific studies that inform water and resource management. He uses his platform in aquatic ecology to introduce urban youth to the field of natural science, and provide environmental education to local communities.

Andy has participated in several LULAC Emerge Conferences and has attended both state and national LULAC conventions. He brings to every space a commitment to environmental justice, community building, immigrant rights, and uplifting the next generation of Latino leaders.
