LULAC National President Roger C. Rocha, Jr. issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s unanimous decision upholding that a state or locality may continue to draw its legislative districts based on total population.

Today, President Obama announced Merrick Garland, Chief Justice for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, as his nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court.

According to recent federal statistics, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued deportation orders to over 7,700 children without giving any of those children the benefit of counsel or even the opportunity to appear in court and state their case.
