Consuelo (Connie) Martinez

LULAC Women’s Commissioner

Consuelo (Connie) Martinez was born and raised in San Antonio. Lived in New Mexico for 31 years and returned to San Antonio in 2009. She is married to Max Martinez and has one son Maximo Martinez. She obtained a Bachelor Degree from the College of Santa Fe in 1996.

Her contribution to the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) for the past 39 years has served the minority community and held many elected officer positions at all levels of the organization. The highest level was as New Mexico State Director and has severed as Texas State LULAC Treasurer. She was inducted in the LULAC Women’s Hall of Fame in 2008.

In her professional experience she worked and retired from Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque. She was a buyer in the Procurement Department and a Business Consultants in the Small Minority Business Department. She worked on outreach programs to ensure that small minority businesses could participate in procurement opportunities at the Laboratories.

She was also President of the Board of Directors at Cornucopia Adult Day Care Center in Albuquerque. She served on the Board of Directors for the King William Association in the Historic District she lives in the San Antonio downtown area.

Mindfulness inclusion in the Golden Age of Latina Women

Older Latinas play an essential role in our culture, from reminding us of our values and keeping our traditions alive through music, cuisines, and history, yet are often forgotten when policies and programs are developed. This conversation will address older adults’ state and the importance of healthcare, retirement, and other programs that reduce the hardship that many face. It will also highlight the leading role our elders have taken around COVID-19 to take care of their families and communities.
