Revoke the Citizenship of Naturalized Americans?

Re “Office of Denaturalization Is Established” (news article, Feb. 27):

The League of United Latin American Citizens, or Lulac, is disgusted that the Trump administration would create an office to try to bully, scare and intimidate Latinos and all immigrants or refugees who have gained lawful citizenship in the United States.

There is no question that the government should revoke citizenship from convicted terrorists, war criminals and sex offenders. But this new Justice Department denaturalization task force was created to strip naturalized Americans of their citizenship by using new criteria that could result in thousands of Americans losing their citizenship.

This new office is yet another one of Donald Trump’s tools to carry his administration’s xenophobic and racist agenda. Lulac is concerned of the potential abuse by racist elements in the administration. Our organization had to file suit to stop Texas from purging 98,000 naturalized U.S. citizen voters from its voter rolls in 2019.
