LULAC Denounces Insurrection In Washington, DC By Riot Mobs

Nation’s Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Tells President Trump to Cease and Desist His Defiance of Defeat

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) issued the following statement Wednesday amid scenes of thousands of protestors rushing Capitol Hill and disrupting certification of the November 3rd election of Joe Biden as 46th President of the United States:

“Our democracy is under attack. LULAC affirms Americans’ right to peaceful protest, but we condemn and denounce violence and intimidation. President Trump’s explicit and implicit support of the violence is sadly yet another example of how unfit he is to lead our democracy. We stand with the millions of Americans who made their voices heard in our election and who believe in a peaceful transition of power. We stand with our Democracy and will defend and protect it.

Storming the nation’s capitol, the very seat of our government while armed and with the deliberate intent to provoke violence and destruction is treasonous and a federal, capital offense. Where are the water cannons, tear gas, rubber bullets and armored SWAT vehicles that were used on American citizens all across America after George Floyd’s death? Where is the outcry for law and order from the White House and the indignation by so-called patriots as our capitol’s windows are smashed and the hallowed chambers of Congress violated by anarchists?

These traitors need to be arrested, face federal charges and trials to answer for their actions. Attacking Capitol police officers and elected officials cannot be condoned under any circumstances by any side. LULAC stands with the members of Congress, their staffs and workers, Capitol police and law enforcement. This insurrection is treason being called for directly by the exiting president. Words matter and can incite violence. Shame on those who encourage or silently watch this attack on the very foundation of our Republic. We know America’s foundation as a democracy cannot be undone by a few unlawful individuals. Respect for our rule of law is our tradition and will continue to be a core pillar of who we are as a nation.”
