Education and Equitable Access

LULAC works to advance the educational attainment of Latinos by engaging the community in advocacy and policy efforts at the local, state, and federal level.

LULAC affirms that education is a fundamental right for all. Ensuring access to quality public education is not only a humanitarian issue, but also a workforce and economic imperative that is foundational to the success and long-term prosperity of our country.

Key Education Priorities:

  • Protecting access to education for all students, including immigrant children, and opposing any policy that denies education as a fundamental right.

  • Advancing culturally responsive, research-based instruction to better serve diverse student populations.

  • Reducing the Hispanic dropout rate and closing the achievement gapthrough targeted federal policies and programs.

  • Increasing federal funding and accessfor programs that support Latino students, including LNESC, Head Start, Migrant and Seasonal Head Start, GEAR UP, TRIO, WIC, HEP-CAMP, and Title I, Title III, and Title VII programs.

  • Expanding bilingual education and adult basic education programsto effectively support English language learners.

  • Opposing vouchers and any funding mechanisms that divert resources from public schools, and instead strengthening public education through adequate funding and school improvement.
